RESPONSIBILITIES
- Observe, report, and record vital signs, symptoms, and conditions of residents in accordance with established nursing standards and principles, physician orders, and administrative policies. Ensure that required nursing care techniques are followed.
- Assist in the assessment of residents and the development, implementation, review, and evaluation of resident care plans. Monitors residents’ health, noting changes in condition and determining the need for doctor referral; processes and implements physician orders.
- Planned, directed, supervise, and evaluate the work of the unit’s nursing and personal care staff. Orient and train new employees, as well as participate in in-service education. Monitors and evaluates performance, and refers problems to the Director of Care.
- Assist in the facility’s preparation for RAI MDS.
- In the absence of the Director of Care, assume command of the facility.
- In the absence of the care clerk, staff replacement is provided.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A current certificate of competence from the Ontario College of Nurses is required.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with the Ontario Registered Nurses Association.
- Previous Long-Term Care Management Experience Preferred.
- Experience with the Cognitively Impaired.
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, as well as infection control procedures.
- Commitment to working with seniors must be demonstrated.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively, while prioritizing tasks to handle the most pressing first.
- Ability to present information clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing, whether in person or over the phone; an active listener with a friendly demeanor.
